Agentic AI arrives for nursing shifts and health systems’ front doors

Hippocratic AI is introducing two agentic AI tools aimed at improving both patient access and nursing workflows, built on its Polaris safety architecture that has supported more than 180 million patient interactions and been validated by thousands of clinicians. Nurse Co-Pilot is a voice-based assistant embedded within the electronic health record that helps nurses handle time-intensive tasks like admission education, patient teaching, caregiver preparation, and medication guidance. The AI conducts conversations tailored to each patient’s understanding, answers questions in real time, and automatically documents structured summaries and transcripts back into the chart. Developed with partners including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, OhioHealth, and Cleveland Clinic, the tool is designed to return one to four hours per nurse per shift to direct patient care.

Alongside this, AI Front Door focuses on simplifying the patient journey by replacing fragmented systems like call centers, portals, and IVRs with a single, continuous AI interface. Patients can schedule appointments, ask about billing or lab results, coordinate referrals, arrange transportation, and follow up on care—all within one ongoing conversation across phone, text, or chat. The system maintains awareness of patient history and prior interactions, allowing for a more seamless and personalized experience without forcing patients to restart at each step. Set to roll out to initial partners in May 2026, the tool reflects a broader push to move beyond traditional “digital front door” concepts toward a more integrated, patient-centered access model.
