Indonesia is accelerating its AI ambitions through a strategic alliance between Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH), Cisco, and NVIDIA to launch a national AI Center of Excellence (CoE). Backed by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), the initiative aims to bolster sovereign AI infrastructure, train 1 million Indonesians in digital skills, and provide AI access to hundreds of millions by 2027. The CoE will feature full-stack NVIDIA AI infrastructure, Cisco’s intelligent security tools, and research and training support via the NVIDIA Inception program. Already, 28 startups and vendors are using IOH’s NVIDIA-powered infrastructure to create solutions across healthcare, education, food security, and smart cities.
A standout use case involves Hippocratic AI, which is collaborating with the Indonesian government and Indosat to deploy an AI health assistant. This system, built on the Sahabat-AI suite of Bahasa Indonesian language models, helps women over 50 schedule mammograms—highlighting Munjal Shah’s vision for scalable, preventative healthcare support through AI. This real-world application underscores how localized AI models and agentic systems can deliver critical health interventions while promoting digital inclusion. As Indonesia continues to develop AI policy frameworks aligned with national values, initiatives like this one show how public-private partnerships are shaping ethical, impactful AI ecosystems.
