NVIDIA, A16z-backed Hippocratic AI achieves unicorn status with a $141M round to deploy clinical AI agents in hospitals

Hippocratic AI, a California-based startup specializing in safety-focused large language models (LLMs) for non-diagnostic healthcare tasks, has raised $141 million in a Series B funding round led by Kleiner Perkins. The round, which included support from A16z, NVIDIA, General Catalyst, and others, brings the company’s valuation to $1.64 billion, granting it unicorn status. Hippocratic AI’s funding will drive expansion into pharmaceuticals, payor services, and international markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Its core technology, Polaris, powers AI agents designed to engage in natural, empathetic conversations with patients, handling tasks like dietary advice and medication scheduling while adhering to stringent safety standards.

The company also launched its AI Agent App Store, enabling clinicians to create tailored AI agents in under 30 minutes without coding experience. Debuting with over 300 agents across 25 medical specialties, the platform addresses diverse healthcare needs, including cervical cancer check-ins, postpartum mental health support, and diabetes screening. These agents undergo a rigorous safety verification process involving over 6,000 nurses and 300 doctors. With recent partnerships with major healthcare organizations such as OhioHealth and Fraser Health, Hippocratic AI has rapidly scaled, conducting hundreds of thousands of patient interactions with high satisfaction ratings. CEO Munjal Shah highlighted the company’s mission to ethically transform healthcare through innovative, clinician-driven AI solutions to alleviate staffing shortages and improve patient care.
