This AI-powered service, designed to interact with patients via telephone, aims to improve healthcare access, equity, and outcomes. The initiative has already engaged with over 100 Spanish-speaking and English-speaking patients to promote life-saving cancer screenings, particularly focusing on colorectal health. WellSpan plans to expand this service to include additional languages such as Haitian Creole and Nepali, addressing the needs of diverse communities and overcoming language barriers.
The GenAI healthcare agent is not only enhancing patient engagement but also addressing the severe healthcare workforce shortage affecting health systems nationwide. It provides comprehensive and empathetic conversations with patients, offering complete transcripts for clinician review and, when necessary, facilitating live transfers to human clinicians. WellSpan and Hippocratic AI are developing additional GenAI agents to support various critical workflows, including chronic care management, post-discharge follow-ups for specific conditions, wellness surveys, and pre-operative patient instructions.
