Nvidia’s venture arm backs $17M investment in Hippocratic AI to build out generative AI healthcare agents

Hippocratic AI, a startup focused on developing safe and effective generative AI for healthcare, has recently secured a $17 million investment from Nvidia’s venture arm, NVentures, along with other investors. This investment is an add-on to their extended series A round, bringing their total funding to $137 million. The company aims to build the first safety-focused large language model for healthcare, with an initial focus on non-diagnostic, patient-facing applications. Hippocratic AI’s approach emphasizes safety and industry collaboration, as evidenced by their extensive testing phases involving thousands of licensed healthcare professionals.

The company’s AI-powered healthcare agents are designed to address the shortage of healthcare workers by conducting low-risk, non-diagnostic, patient-facing services. These agents cover various roles, including preoperative care, chronic care management, and wellness coaching. Hippocratic AI has developed a clinician-driven safety testing system and formed AI oversight groups to ensure the safety and effectiveness of their product. Their collaboration with Nvidia has enabled them to create AI agents with low-latency responses, leading to more natural and empathetic interactions with patients. This technology, which they call “Empathy Inference,” aims to revolutionize healthcare by increasing access and improving patient experiences.
