Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison is pioneering the deployment of AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network) infrastructure in Southeast Asia, collaborating with Nokia and NVIDIA to integrate AI capabilities into its network. This initiative combines Nokia’s 5G Cloud RAN technology with NVIDIA’s AI Aerial platform, creating an advanced computing infrastructure designed to enhance network efficiency, performance, and scalability. The project aligns with Indonesia’s national AI strategy and includes partnerships with universities to foster research and innovation in AI-driven telecommunications. With plans to establish a 5G AI-RAN lab in Surabaya in early 2025, followed by commercial pilots and broader implementation in 2026, the effort is set to revolutionize how AI and connectivity converge in real-world applications across industries such as healthcare, education, and agriculture.
A major component of this AI-RAN deployment is its ability to support large-scale AI inferencing applications through NVIDIA’s serverless API technology. This capability enables AI application providers, including Hippocratic AI, Personal.ai, GoTo, and Accenture, to efficiently distribute workloads across the network. The integration positions Indosat as not only a leader in connectivity but also as an enabler of AI-driven services, facilitating a nationwide AI-powered ecosystem. By embedding AI within its network infrastructure, Indosat is laying the groundwork for future advancements in telecom, setting a global precedent for AI-enhanced wireless networks.
