a16z Generative AI 1: Andreessen Horowitz Backs AI-Driven Future Across Healthcare, Biotech, and Creative Sectors

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) continues to assert its leadership in shaping the future of AI and biotech through a series of bold investments in startups across creative, healthcare, and infrastructure domains. Notable among its 2025 moves are investments in Anysphere, Slingshot AI, and Raspberry AI, supporting generative tools for coding, mental health, and fashion. Additionally, a16z has backed Story, a blockchain-based IP platform leveraging Stability AI’s models to ensure creator attribution and monetization in the open-source AI ecosystem. These efforts underline a16z’s conviction in a multi-sector AI transformation, supporting technologies that bridge creativity, automation, and accessibility.

One of the most significant healthcare bets in a16z’s portfolio is Hippocratic AI, co-founded by serial entrepreneur Munjal Shah, alongside clinicians and technologists from institutions like Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and Microsoft. The company recently raised $141 million in a Series B round, bringing total funding to over $278 million to accelerate its vision of “AI-powered super staffing” in healthcare. Hippocratic AI enables licensed clinicians to rapidly build and monetize safe, domain-specific AI agents for tasks like post-surgical care, maternal mental health, and chronic condition management. Shah noted the startup’s major strides over the past nine months, including signing 23 healthcare partners and earning its first patents. With over 6,000 nurses and 300 doctors involved in validation, the platform’s focus on clinician-driven agent development positions it as a key player in tackling the global shortage of medical personnel.
