The American Nurses Foundation, in partnership with Hippocratic AI, has launched a new initiative offering three $10,000 microgrants to support nurse-led research on how artificial intelligence can strengthen nursing practice and improve patient care. Hippocratic AI’s Chief Nursing Officer Amy McCarthy emphasized that the program reflects the company’s belief that nurses must help shape the future of AI in healthcare, given their deep understanding of real-world patient needs. The grants prioritize proposals from bedside nurses with 3–5 years of experience who collaborate with nurse executives, and focus on practical, high-impact areas such as AI tools for pre-procedure preparation, more intuitive nurse-facing interfaces, clinical communication enhancements, and strategies to build trust in AI among nursing staff.
Applications opened November 11, 2025, and will be accepted through February 17, 2026, via ANF’s online portal, with winners announced in April. The initiative is part of a broader effort supported by the ANA to accelerate ethical, effective AI adoption in nursing by ensuring nurses themselves lead the design and implementation of new tools. Both ANF and Hippocratic AI underscore that nurse-led innovation is essential for translating AI potential into real improvements in patient care, team workflows, and community health outcomes—reinforcing the growing role of nurses in guiding the next era of AI-powered healthcare.
